CACHE Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF)
Course Details
Our Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Level 3 award has been designed to teach students the fundamentals the roles and responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant. As you work your way through the course you will build a knowledge and understanding of the needs of young people and the structure and processes of educational establishments.
As you progress through the course materials you will cover a wide range of subject areas which will include child and young person development, safeguarding children, communication skills and schools as organisations.
This can be a hugely rewarding career as you see the results of your input when children achieve their full potential.
This award is a knowledge based certification so you are not required to undertake a work placement to complete the course.
Please note – You do not require any previous classroom experience or qualifications prior to doing this course.
Qualifications
On successful completion of the course you will receive the CACHE Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF) qualification. Our Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools qualification is listed on the QCF.
Who is CACHE?

- Understand the principles of developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults
- Understand how to communicate with children, young people and adults
- Understand legislation, policies and procedures for confidentiality and sharing information, including data protection
Schools as organisations
(A/601/3326, Unit Level: 3; GLH: 15 hours; Credits: 3)
- Know the structure of education from early years to post-compulsory education
- Understand how schools are organised in terms of roles and responsibilities
- Understand school ethos, mission, aims and values
- Know about the legislation affecting schools
- Understand the purpose of school policies and procedures
- Understand the wider context in which schools operate
Understand Child and Young Person Development
(L/601/1693, Unit Level: 3; GLH: 30 hours; Credits: 4)
- Understand the expected pattern of development for children and young people from birth - 19 years.
- Understand the factors that influence children and young people’s development and how these affect practice.
- Understand how to monitor children and young people’s development and interventions that should take place if this is not following the expected pattern.
- Understand the importance of early intervention to support the speech, language and communication needs of children and young people.
- Understand the potential effects of transitions on children and young people’s development.
Understand How to Safeguard the Wellbeing of Children and Young People
(Y/601/1695, Unit Level: 3; GLH: 25 hours; Credits: 3)
- Understand the main legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding children and young people.
- Understand the importance of working in partnership with other organisations to safeguard children and young people.
- Understand the importance of ensuring children and young people’s safety and protection in the work setting.
- Understand how to respond to evidence or concerns that a child or young person has been abused or harmed.
- Understand how to respond to evidence or concerns that a child or young person has been bullied.
- Understand how to work with children and young people to support their safety and wellbeing.
- Understand the importance of e-safety for children and young people.
Study Details
Your Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools course is broken down into 4 study modules. Each module is worth set amounts of credits that total 12 credits. You must achieve 12 credits to successfully complete the course.
Assessment Method
When you complete each study module you will be required to complete an assignment which should be submitted to your personal tutor for assessment. By submitting your assignments to your tutor, your progress is continually monitored and the tutor is able to provide you with feedback and assistance throughout your studies.
Study Options
Distance learning is meant to provide students with flexibility and Home Learning Course wants your learning experience to be as convenient as possible. Therefore, we are able to offer two methods of study:
- Traditional paper-based learning (via the post)
- Online learning (all materials exchanged electronically)
Based on previous students’ experiences, we anticipate that it will take the average student approximately 80 hours to complete the course.
